My name is Andrea Brewer and I am a native of western North Carolina. I am a self-taught artist who developed my fiber art style from years spent as a landscape watercolorist. I worked as a freelance watercolorist, an illustrator, and an educator before returning full time to fiber art in 2006.
I work from a studio in Brevard, North Carolina. Studio visits are by appointment only. Custom orders and commercial clients welcomed.
I am a member of the Transylvania County Arts Council, the American Craft Council, SAFF, and HandMade in America.
I start with raw fiber. The fibers are gently processed in my western North Carolina studio using earth-friendly products and low metal dyes. Using strands of wool, silk, cotton and bamboo fiber, I build the scene (tableau) in layers, contouring them into a three-dimensional composition. When completed, the scene is presented much like a two-dimensional work of art. My works are expertly framed using the very latest in conservation techniques.
My goal is to express the spirit of the painted landscape in fiber.
